ABOUT THE HANDMADE WRITER E-COURSE



How does the Handmade Writer e-course work?

The course is a virtual creative writing workshop. You will be challenged creatively and be encouraged to develop your writing. You will be supported through the e-course by Amy Spencer, an author and experienced workshop leader who is committed to helping you get the most out of your experience. If you are looking for the motivation to write and the support to help you then this e-course is a perfect fit.

At the heart of the e-course is a private online community space. This is a private space where you can share your ideas and your writing. Here you will also find fresh creative stimulus posted regularly by Amy to help fuel your writing. You won’t be working in isolation; you will be among fellow writers and can communicate with each other on our own discussion boards. You can post your own writing, read each others and get feedback on your work.

At the beginning of each week, you will be set a creative writing project. These projects will challenge you creatively and the emphasis will be on giving you a chance to experiment. They will be fun too. You will also be sent twice weekly creative challenges to help prompt your creative ideas. At the end of each week, you can share your writing with the rest of the group in the online community space.

You will be given detailed feedback by Amy on each of your weekly writing projects. This will include ideas for how to develop your writing further.

Although writing projects, creative challenges and creative stimulus will be given regularly, there are no set class times. You can visit the online community space whenever you want to see what the other writers are up to or to share your latest work and get feedback. This is a great way to develop your writing and you don't have to change out of your pyjamas.



Why is the e-course called Handmade Writer?

Crafting and writing can be very similar. You need to search for materials and piece them together with your imagination leading the way. Both can be taught but it is much more fun to experiment and play and see what happens. The Handmade Writer e-course takes a crafty approach to creative writing. Emphasis is on collecting ideas from a variety of sources and then crafting them into pieces of writing.

How do I join the e-course?

You can register here.
Places on the e-course are limited so early registration is strongly recommended.



What do I need to take part?

You just need access to a computer and the internet. Oh, and that urge to write.



How much time do I need to spend on this e-course?

The e-course will run for six weeks. The amount of time you spend on it is completely up to you. You don't have to log in to the online community space at any particular times. You can visit as often or as little as you like to share your writing, collect your feedback or read other writer's work. There is no pressure, only friendly encouragement and support. This course is ideal for busy people who want find a flexible, but structured way to fit more writing into their lives.



What type of creative writing will the course focus on?

This e-course focuses on fiction and life writing. It will help you to explore how your own life and experiences can inspire your fiction. However, you can interpret the weekly writing projects however you want and try different forms of writing. This course is a chance to experiment and there will be space and encouragement to try different approaches.



Do I need any previous writing experience?

No. This e-course is for everyone, no matter how much or little writing experience you have had before. It is a chance to experiment and try new things along with gentle encouragement to keep on writing.



Do I have to share my writing with the group?

No. If you don’t feel comfortable sharing your writing in our community space then you don’t have to. However, it can be a positive experience to get feedback on your work and there will be plenty of individual and group encouragement. Only your fellow writers on the e-course will be able to see it as the online community space is private (you need a password to enter).

If you don’t want to share your writing with the group but still want critical feedback on your weekly writing projects then you can email them to Amy privately.


How much individual attention will I get?

You will be given individual support throughout the course and will receive individual critical feedback from Amy on each weekly writing project.

How secure is it to pay online, and will I need a PayPal account?

All payment details are taken on PayPal's secure site. Once your transaction is complete, you will be returned to bringyourself.com. We will receive confirmation of your payment, but we are not given your personal billing information, including any credit or debit card details.

You do not need to have a PayPal account, or to register for one, to use our PayPal checkout. You can pay using your debit card or credit card. However, if you do have a PayPal account, you may alternatively pay using your account balance.

You can pay using any currency and it will be converted to British pounds automatically.

If I change my mind about the course, can I get a refund?

You can get a refund on your full course fee up to one week before the course start date.
